New Egg - sometimes they dont get it

New Egg - sometimes they dont get it

Post by Supernovae » Wed Jan 11, 2006 9:43 am

I purchased a motherboard on newegg and I love it, but I noticed a mistake printed on the website so I contacted someone to update the site in case others wanted to purchase the board. Here is the response from newegg
SRR: hello
Allen: Hello. How may I assist you?
SRR: I just wanted to point out a mistake for a mainboard that I just purchased
Allen: may I have the order number
SRR: The ABIT KN8 has 3 onboard PCI-Express 1x slots as opposed to the 2 PCI-Express 1x listed..
SRR: I will get order # in a second
Allen: ok
SRR: [ORDER NUMBER REMOVED]
Allen: thank you
Allen: It states 4x 184pin DDR in the specs
SRR: On the website there is an error in the listing.
SRR: It states on the website that there are 2X PCI-Express 1x slots
SRR: The mainboard has 3x PCI-Express 1x slots
Allen: it states 1 PCI express x16 and 2 PCI x1
SRR: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... etailSpecs
SRR: under the expansion slots - there should be 3 PCI Express 1x under the listing
Allen: PCI Express x16 1 PCI Express x1 2 PCI Slots 3
Allen: so there are 3 PCI slots
Allen: would you like to contact tech support for clarification?
SRR: I just purchased the board - It has:
SRR: PCI - 3 slots
SRR: PCI Express 1x - 3 slots
SRR: PCI Express 16x - 1 slot
SRR: I'm just pointing out an error on the website - so that others will know what they are looking at when they look
to purchase things from newegg
Allen: if you don't like it, we can refund it to you
SRR: I love the board -
Allen: thanks, I will let the proper dept. know
Allen: Do you have any other questions, or is there anything else I can assist you with today?
SRR: That is all for today - thankyou
Allen: have a great evening
Thanks again for contacting Newegg. Once you know, you Newegg.

Jesus Christ.
I've been looking at other websites just to check their specs.

One Asus video card they said was SLI ready, said nothing on the box, or anything on mwave about being SLI. I checked out their website, and nothing about being SLI...

That not being SLI, I'm gonna get a $200 video card as oppossed to a $120 one...

For once, I'm actually with JJ on this one - what a fucking dickwad...

I think this is another case of a tech guy not knowing about PCI Express yet, and thinking it's the same as the old PCI... I expect we'll get a lot of this before PCI Express becomes the die hard standard on motherboards...

But if thats what you fucking do, you should know what it is.
And I think he's just a dickhead who can't be bothered to do shit.

Also, newegg never has their stats correct.

Yeah, its pretty bad when children, after a few seconds of being told "They are different" know more than a person who works for a company that sells them.

I blame the industry. I mean fuck, why does it have to be called PCI Express?? That makes it sound like it's just a faster version of PCI. Like USB, and USB 2.0. If they'd just called the new slot type something different, like the original name, 3GIO, then stupid morons wouldn't get confused!

But comeon - how many times did I have to point it out to "Allen" that I was referring to a different type of slot.

Then he wanted me to talk to Tech support..

I felt like saying - "Hey, I'm not the moron here. I know what I am talking about."

I think he just tried to pass you off to tech support at the point that he realized he was in over his head, and he figured maybe a tech guy would know what you were talking about!! =P

They pretty much are, except for the speed. That what I was trying to-... oh fuck it, never mind. I don't even know why I'm posting in this thread, anyway. I hate these tech support threads! =P

USB means the type of connector, but the version refers to speed. Originals are USB1.1 and USB2.0 is the much faster successor (Peak speed of 480mb/s compared to 11).

Firewire 400 and 800 really are better though (400mb/s and 800mb/s average speed, respectively)

And Karl, yeah, plus adds more confusion with stuff like PCI-X being around.
